A few months ago, Ross was complaining about the city’s weak vegan restaurant scene. This past Wednesday, he opened the hottest new vegan joint in Kensington with friends Scott McCannell and Madeleine Foote.
Hot Beans is a Latin-inspired takeout joint with sitting room for about ten that will surely become a neighbourhood stable. The menu is small, but the food is delicious (even for us carnivorous folk) and they’re open late. My personal favourite: the yuba “chicken” taco with chili and lime.
Maddy’s doughnuts are also dangerously good, especially her café con “leche”. Somehow, ethical desserts are easier to justify.
